"Ukrainian Maldives" is an ironic look at one of the prominent corners of Ukraine. This abstract work is inspired by an old quarry with turquoise water reminiscent of the color of the exotic beaches of the Maldives. With broad strokes, I conveyed the multi-layeredness and ambiguity of this place. The grey, green and red colors that dominate the upper part of the painting symbolize the industrial past of the quarry, while the lower part, bright pink, blue and white, reflects the stunning beauty and purity of the water.
This picture creates a unique game of contrasts — between the past and the present, between nature and the industrial landscape, between expectation and reality. I wanted to convey the sense of awe and irony that arises when looking at this unusual landscape, which, despite its unexpected appearance, evokes a sense of calm and admiration.
